On 2nd February 5:00 PM we would like to invite You to kino Kinematograf (cinema owned by Film Museum in Lodz) to the screening of the film Popiół i diament (‘Ashes and Diamonds’) from 1958, by Andrzej Wajda, with English subtitles and a video lecture.
Event is part of the project entitled Krótka historia polskiego kina (‘A Short Story of Polish Cinema”, organized by Stowarzyszenie Kin Studyjnych, which consists of 10 meetings, each of them devoted to different classic of Polish cinema.
About Popiół i diament (‘Ashes and Diamonds’, 1958) by Andrzej Wajda:
A young Home Army soldier receives an order to shoot the secretary of the Polish Workers’ Party on the eve of the end of World War II. At the same time, he meets a girl who works as a bartender at the hotel. Torn between duty and a nascent feeling, he will have to make a choice.
The editors of the „Film” magazine called „Popiół i diament” the best Polish film of 1958. The film won a lot of foreign awards: the FIPRESCI Award in Venice (1959), the Award of the Canadian Federation of Film Societies in Vancouver (190), the Award of Film Critics in West Germany and Czechoslovakia.
